Fog claims five lives in accidents

Five persons died in as many accidents in the last 24 hours as a thick blanket of fog enveloped the Capital.

* In Burari, a truck rammed into a car, killing one and injuring two. The deceased, Sunil Dutt (38), was returning home from a party with his sister-in-law Jasbir Kaur (60) and her son Deepak when the accident occurred, an officer said. The incident was reported around 11 pm, Friday.

* A motorcyclist was crushed by an unknown vehicle in Nangloi, West Delhi. The victim, Gulshan Kumar (35), lived in Mongoplpuri, and worked as a salesman.

* In the third accident, at Vijay Vihar in Outer Delhi, a speeding tractor crushed a 50-year-old rickshaw-puller. The incident was reported around 8.30 pm on Friday. The victim, Joginder Mahto, succumbed to injuries at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, the police said.

* In Vijay Vihar, a seven-year-old boy, Shiv Sharma, died after he was hit by an unknown vehicle.

* Also on Friday, a truck crushed a cyclist, Shamshad Ali (38), in Adrash Nagar. The truck driver, Rizwan, has been arrested, the police said.
