
PATNA, JULY 8: Over 20 lakh people remained affected by floods in the vast countryside spanning 12 north Bihar districts where all major rivers are rising menacingly fed by torrential rains in their catchment areas.
Eleven people have so far lost their lives in Sitamarhi and Darbhanga, sources said.
According to a Samastipur report, more than 70 fresh villages were inundated following a rise in the water level of the rivers like Kosi, Kamala Balan and Gandak. The district administration has asked the affected villagers to take shelter at nearby safer places.
The Central Water Commission control room said that the Ganga was close to the red mark at a few places while the Budhi Gandak, Bagmati, Kamala Balan, Kosi and Adhwara group of rivers are still rising and have even crossed the danger level at a few points.
