
The monsoon fury has started hitting the operations of Corporate India.
On Thursday, Aditya V Birla group firm Grasim Industries said due to floods in Bharuch and Surat in Gujarat, it had to shut down its unit.
8216;8216;The overflow of river Kim 8212; which is passing by the side of the company8217;s Birla cellulosic plant at Kharach Gujarat 8212; has flooded some areas of the plant. The operations will be resumed as soon as the water recedes and after required repairs to the plant and machinery,8217;8217; the company said in a notice to the stock exchanges. 8216;8216;The suspension of operation is not likely to impact company8217;s overall profitability,8217;8217; the company added.
Units of pharma major IPCA Laboratories and Omnitex Industries India in Silvassa reported also that work at their factories has been affected due to heavy rains and flooding in the last three days.
IPCA said water entered its new manufacturing unit situated at Piparia Silvassa, which was commissioned in March 2004.
8216;8216;The flood water has now completely receded and the loss or damage to the building, plant and machinery, electrical and other fittings, raw materials, packing materials and finished goods are being ascertained,8217;8217; the company said. All the company8217;s assets are fully insured.
The company clarified that there will not be any major disruption in the supply of pharmaceutical products by the company in the domestic market. It has an another unit in Mumbai. Omnitex Industries said its entire factory was flooded, which has caused damage to its plant and machinery, stocks, election installation, vehicles, and furniture.
