
SURAT, Nov 23: Five people, including two women, were killed and a dozen injured in separate cases of mishap registered in the police stations of the district in the past 24 hours. While two persons died as a result of vehicles overturning, the others died after vehicles rammed into each other, the district control room said on Monday.
Two unidentified women, both aged between 25 and 30, died on the spot when a State Transport bus, in which they were travelling, was hit by a truck GJ 3 U 5549 coming from the opposite direction on the Surat Dhulia Road. Six people, including the driver, conductor and passengers, received injuries in the mishap. The driver of the truck is absconding. The Uchhal police have registered a case under sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicle Act and are investigating.
In another case registered at the Kamrej police station on Monday, an unidentified man was killed on the spot when he was run over by an vehicle on the national highway. Hari Gurji, a resident of Navagam, told the Kamrej police that he discovered the body on the road outside the village on Monday morning.
In another case of mishap, one Sarkhuddin alias Ballu Ramsuddin died on admission to the hospital on Sunday night after his autorickshaw GJ 5 Y 3272 overturned while negotiating a bend near Dhoranpardi village in Kamrej. An unidentified passenger received minor injuries in the mishap.
A tractor driver died on the spot on Monday when his vehicle overturned opposite the Government Rest House at Valod. The driver, Sakaram Gamit, was crushed under the vehicle. The Valod police of the district have registered a case and are investigating.
