
The South district police have arrested five people, including a woman, who held hostage a chartered accountant8217;s wife and their two children in their Green Park home on October 10 and robbed them of Rs 2.5 lakh cash and jewellery worth around Rs 20 lakh. The accused are from different districts of Uttar Pradesh.
According to the police, the accused 8212; Balbir Singh 45, Sompal 42, Chote Lal 36, Vijay Pal 35 and Kranti 35 8212; barged into the house around 2 pm on October 10 when the CA, Sanjay Kumar, was not at home. Apart from his wife Bindu and the kids, two domestic helps were present in the house at that time. Bindu reportedly deals in shares and metal trading.
8220;They were armed with knives and screwdrivers. They assaulted Bindu, the helps and the children, ransacked the house and then locked all of them in a bathroom,8221; said a senior police officer.
Officers said Kranti, who worked as a domestic help in the locality, and Chote Lal, a vegetable vendor in the area, had gathered information about the family and together with the other accused hatched a conspiracy to rob the house.
All of them were arrested from J P Nagar in UP. The police recovered Rs 2.05 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs 18 lakh from their possession. They said accused Vijay Pal was an electrician by profession and was previously involved in two burglaries in Chandigarh and Moradabad.
