The Dahisar police arrested five people from various parts of the city on September 24 on charges of duping a diamond merchant.

The accused offered help to sell his diamonds worth Rs 3 crore and disappeared without paying him the money received from the sale.

According to the police, the complainant Bhupad Desai 35 is a diamond merchant based in Dahisar who sells his diamonds through his agents. Around five months back, Desai was approached by the two accused- Nattulal Gadche and Dilip Sanghvi- who posed as agents and offered to help Desai sell the diamonds at a fair price for a commission. Desai agreed and handed over the diamonds to them. Soon after the incident, the two agents stopped reporting for work which fuelled Desai8217;s suspicion. He got worried when they did not give him the money for the diamonds and stopped responding to his calls.

8220;The two accused had actually sold off the diamonds to some businessmen and vanished without paying Desai the price for it. After waiting for some months, Desai filed a complaint with the magistrate court and we started our investigations based on the magistrate8217;s orders,8221; said Pravin Patil from Dahisar police station.

After preliminary enquiries and investigations, the police arrested the five persons, comprising three people who had purchased the diamonds and the two agents.

Those people who had purchased the diamonds from the two agents have been identified as Bhavesh Shah, Bharat Shah and Madhu Patel, and have been accused of buying the diamonds at a price of Rs 1.50 crore.

They were produced in Borivali Metropolitan Court which remanded them to police custody till September 30.
