An Army jawan lost his life as Indian troops once again came under heavy fire near the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector.

Army’s patrol came under militant fire near Kamosh post in Uri sector. “Around 9.30, a group of infiltrators tried to sneak into the Valley through Uri sector. The Army and militants exchanged fire in which one soldier lost his life,” said the defence spokesman. “Our troops saw militants dragging bodies of two persons into PoK. We can’t say whether the bodies were of militants.”

The slain soldier has been identified as rifleman Naresh. “The search operation has been started in the area,” he added.

Sources, however, said it was not clear whether it was an infiltration attempt or a violation of ceasefire by the Pakistani soldiers. The Army is investigating whether it was a ceasefire violation.

On Friday, BSF had blamed Pakistani troops for violating the ceasefire in RS Pura sector of Jammu. Since July 1, Army has blamed the Pakistani soldiers for violating the ceasefire for more than five times. In Kupwara’s Nowgam sector, the Army has blamed Pakistan for violating the ceasefire three times.
