Nov 25: Chelsea, Real Madrid and Lazio bounced back from various setbacks to earn opening wins in the European Champions League second phase.
Last season8217;s runners-up Bayern Munich, however, could only draw at Norway8217;s Rosenborg.
European Fernando Morientes, preferred to goalless Nicolas Anelka at centre forward, struck in the 17th minute and Raul hit the second three minutes after the break. Serhii Rebrov scored an 86th minute penalty for Kyiv.
It was an impressive result for the Spaniards playing their first match in Europe since Welsh coach John Toshack was sacked.
Last season8217;s runners-up Bayern Munich drew 1-1 at Rosenborg in the other Group C match with Carsten Jancker putting Bayern ahead but Rosenborg8217;s Bent Skammelsrud equalizing.
Yugoslavia8217;s Dejan Stankovic and Brazil8217;s Sergio Conceicao earned a 2-0 win for Lazio, while Chelsea, ninth in the English Premiership, beat Dutch Champions Feyernoord 3-1 thanks to Nigeria8217;s Celestine Babayaro and two goals from Tore-Andre Flo in the secondhalf.
Babayaro8217;s powerful header from Dan Petrescu8217;s cross put Gianluca Vialli8217;s Chelsea ahead just before half-time and Flo added a second after 66 minutes following up the Nigerian8217;s close-range header which came back off the crossbar.
Flo then doubled his tally, sliding home Chelsea8217;s third five minutes from time before Julio Cruz scored a consolation goal for Feyenoord.
In a one-sided encounter, Vialli8217;s side enjoyed the majority of the possession in a game they could have wrapped up in the opening 20 minutes with Gianfranco Zola and Flo causing plenty of problems for the Dutch champions.
Chelsea now travel to Rome next week to take on Lazio, while Feyenoord will host French side Marseilles before the competition8217;s scheduled break until February.
