Fifth generation supercomputer in the making

NEW DELHI, JANUARY 10: To achieve yet another milestone in the new century in parallel processing technology, India8217;s has just begun developing its own fifth generation Param supercomputer with several additional features and applications.

The computer which is expected to be ready within three-and-a-half years, will include new frontier areas such as new hardware and software technology, user friendly software tools and novel application-driven processes.

The Pune-based Centre for Advanced Computing C-DAC, which pioneered the first Indian version of the supercomputer Param-8000 in 1991 despite denial of technology by the United States has now embarked on developing new version of microchips and suitable printed circuit boards.

It had also been making preparations to send within six months the latest fourth generation supercomputer Param-10,000 8211; to Russia.
