Feeling cornered within the JDU, former party chief George Fernandes is seriously backing plans to revive the almost defunct Samata Party SP. The party has convened a conference of 8220;like minded persons8221; on Sunday to formalise the revival move which comes ahead of the forthcoming assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Manipur. It is unlikely that Fernandes, who is sulking ever since Sharad Yadav wrested the post of chief will go along with the JDU in forging an electoral understanding. The SP is not an NDA ally and he has already announced his support to Samajwadi Party chief and UP CM Mulayam Singh Yadav in the state.
