
TOKYO, June 18: Poilice have broken up a counterfeiting ring passing off fake US 100 dollar bills in central Japan and are reportedly looking for its North Korean mastermind.
A police spokesman in Toyama said six men suspected of circulating an undisclosed number of fake bills were arrested on Monday. Several Japanese media reports said more than 900 counterfeit notes had been confiscated, and that police believe 1,000 more may be in circulation. Police are looking for a North Korean man believed to have been the leader of the counterfeiting ring.
