ROOPNAGAR, Feb 21: The district police claim to have busted a gang, allegedly involved in circulating fake currency in the area. An official release issued to the press here today said that the police arrested two people, Karnail Singh and Jaspal Singh, both of Patiala, in this connection.

Fake currency of Rs 5 lakh were seized from the accused. Disclosing their modus operandi, SSP Jaskaran Singh said that the accused used to circulate fake currency by using genuine currency on top and bottom of the bundles of the notes. A case has has been registered at Anandpur Sahib Police station.Adding that these arrests were part of a drive against anti-social elements in the district, Jaskaran Singh disclosed that a three-member gang of the thieves and two drug peddlers were separately held by Sadar police Station and Sohana police, respectively.

In another development, five persons were arrested for the murder of a cab owner on February 2. The deceased Jaspal Singh of Ludhiana was allegedly murdered by them and his body was later recovered from near Bheora village. The accused who had hired the cab, later fled away with the vehicle after killing Jaspal Singh. Those arrested are Dalwir Singh, Ashok Kumar, Anil Kumar, Ajay Kumar and Sajay Kumar.
