NEW DELHI, April 8: The Special Cell says it has busted a fake certificate racket with the arrest of three persons, including the woman gang-leader. The gang allegedly made fake marksheets, university degrees and school merit certificates.

After the police received information that the gang was operating out of Nehru Place, a sub-inspector was sent there as a decoy customer. A deal of Rs 20,000 was struck for a Delhi University certificate and the contact was asked to prepare the document in the name of Ram Singh. It was agreed that the money would be collected at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

A trap was laid and the two men who came to deliver the certificate were nabbed. They were later identified as Riyazuddin 25 and Dhyan Singh 32. On interrogation, they reportedly revealed that they worked for one Ekta Kumar 32. Kumar, who runs a computer store in Kundan House Nehru Place, was subsequently arrested.

According to the police, Kumar started Ekta Graphics in 1993. She got married in 1989, but separated from her husband in 1992. She started the computer printing shop with initial financial assistance from her father. The police say the 8220;lure of easy money8221; made her get into this racket.

While Kumar started desktop publishing, Riyazuddin and Singh opened a screen printing shop.
