MUMBAI, August 25: Principal Judge A S Aguiar of the Sessions Court on Tuesday rejected the anticipatory bail application of an extortionist who allegedly threatened a marble dealer at Gandhinagar.
The complaint, lodged by Dinesh Babulal Jain with the Worli police under Sections 384 extortion, 387 causing death or grievious hurt through extortion and 34 common intention of the Indian Penal Code, states that he was repeatedly threatened by the applicant Vinay Dubey and his two associates between July 26 and August 4.
On July 27, Dubey, Sandeep Lanjrekar and Mahesh K alias Gotya visited Jain8217;s shop and told him that they belonged to the Arun Gawli gang. The trio then threatened Jain at revolver point and demanded a sum of Rs five lakh.
On August 2, the trio again visited the shop and told Jain to pay up Rs two lakh in two days or else he and his family members would be harmed. A couple of days later, Lanjrekar returned and whipped out a revolver, telling Jain to hand over the money by 9.00 pm on the same day.
Jain then approached the Worli police, who laid a trap and nabbed Lanjrekar instantly. On August 10, acting on a tip-off, the police raided Gotya8217;s Worli residence and arrested him. Police said that Dubey8217;s custodial interrogation will establish whether he actually belongs to the Gawli gang.
Meanwhile, Vinay Dubey moved the sessions court seeking anticipatory bail. In his application, Dubey maintained that a false complaint has been lodged against him, but Principal Judge S A Aguiar, after hearing both sides, rejected it.
