It is hardly surprising that the BJP leaders are fuming. A party full of criminals has to support criminals. What else can it do? Mayawati should not hesitate to take action against the father-son duo if she finds out that they have ordered or committed murder. Let the Thakurs protest. All of them are crooks and have pilfered the state dry. It is sad that Mayawati has also enriched herself through many shady methods. This is her greatest handicap.

Agreed that the Indian intelligence agencies have been found wanting on more than one occasion, but Tavleen8217;s attempt to paint them as incompetent is inappropriate. Her observation that the Indian government does not have a clear-cut policy on issues relating to either Pakistan or Iraq is also without substance. Or dose she want India to ride roughshod on Pakistan like America is doing on Iraq?

The fact is that since India is neither an economic or military powerhouse, it cannot afford to treat Pakistan in the way US treats its 8216;8216;terrorist enemies8217;8217;. No matter what evidence India furnishes, the US is not going to act against ally Pakistan. India8217;s battle against Pakistan-backed terrorists is going to a slow one. It8217;s not going to be American-style where smart bombs are dropped over Kabul or Baghdad.

8226; I agree that India is yet to present a case against Pakistan like Powell did against Iraq at the UN. But there is a question of legitimacy in Powell8217;s case. If he really wanted a peaceful solution, Powell would have made available to the UN, the satellite photographs showing 8216;8216;proof8217;8217; against Saddam. But he came up with the so-called 8216;8216;evidence8217;8217; to press for war, not peace. In our case, we lack the resources to come up with such proof.
