Exploring new realms

8220;Well you can say that my music is universal and it has been adored and accepted extensively by the people, that is the reason why I am here today, performing at this renowned festival,8221; said Mehndi, who began his performance with his personal favorite Namo Namo and pulled the crowd through his songs and remixes of various film songs and albums. 8220;We had sung Namo Namo in concerts across Pakistan and it was a big hit. Live concerts are about how competently you present before the thousands of people, it is a joint effort and my troupe is very meticulous.8221;

After having heaved the nation to caper to the beats of Punjabi pop and bhangra for more than a decade, Daler Mehndi is now onto experimenting the flipside with his first Sufi album Bismillah. 8220;The compositions of Bismillah do not talk about a particular personality or any one religion but reveres the supreme power. The Sufi music in this album is extremely poignant and it had a tremendous influence on the musicians during its making. Many have worked free of charge. I have been working on this album since the last two years and am sure it will take the country by storm,8221; adds Mehndi who has not only sung for the album but has also written and composed music for Bismillah.

Having lent his voice for chart toppers of films like Rang de Basanti and Sing is Kinng, Mehndi wants to continue with his own albums besisdes playback singing. 8220;The Punjabi numbers in the films are used to pull the crowd. However, it is the taste of the world. The music, rhythm and style has been widely used in Indian and international compositions,8221; adds Mehndi.

The singer attributes his versatility to his strong classical base. Reviewing his career Mehndi says, 8220;The most fulfilling thing is the uniform hype on my work ever since 1995. I have given one hit each year that has musically united the nation and this unification through my music has been extremely gratifying.8221;
