What brings you to India?
My sister travelled a lot around India and told me a great deal about her trips. I really wanted to know more about this country. As far as my job is concerned, it was also very interesting to come to India since it is one of the main exporters of clothes. I was looking forward to discovering Indian handwoven textiles.
How is it to work with Indian people?
It took me some time to get used to the Indian way of working. For instance, when you set up an appointment, people tend to be late. Plus, in textile production you have to check everything very carefully because the European quality standards are very high when compared to Indian standards.
A Delhiite8217;s worst habit?
People keep staring at me in the streets. It8217;s kind of disturbing. Even if you8217;re trying to behave like an Indian woman, dressed like an Indian woman, you8217;re always considered a foreigner.
Do you use public transportation?
Never. I always use autorickshaws because they are very convenient, you don8217;t have to wait for them and they are not crowded.
Favourite place in Delhi?
Old Delhi, especially Kinari Bazar. Here you can find any kind of accessories, from ribbons to paper crafts. I really like to get lost in the alleys, everything is so colourful and full of life. Another place I love is Lodhi Gardens because it is very peaceful and does not seem to be in the heart of Delhi.
Favourite food?
Assamese, because it is very healthy and fat-free. I8217;m a big fan of tea. As for restaurants, I like to go to the Big Chill in Khan Market. There you can have pasta or other European food and they serve amazing chocolate cakes.
Did you pick up some Indian words or habits?
I8217;m doing the Indian nod. I eat with my hands and I keep saying 8220;theek hai8221; or 8220;achcha8221;.
