The Morarka Centre for Research and Revival of Crafts of the NCPA has organised a screening of the film Kahankar-Ahankar. Directed by Anjali Monterio and K P Jayasankar 8212; the husband and wife team also teach at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences 8212; it presents the history of the Warli tribe through a selection of their stories and paintings. Also knitted together is a focus on how the outside world8217;s ideas of progress 8212; imposed on the Warlis 8212; have been incorporated in their mythology. A discussion will be held with the directors after the screening. Don8217;t miss this film 8212; the teachers from TISS were recently in the news for their film YCP-97, based on the six prisoners and their creativity within the walls of the Yerawada prison.

Hues of Bengal

Manas Bhattacharjee, an artist from West Bengal, will display his paintings and drawings in Mumbai for the first time. Painting since 1983, Manas did adiploma in Fine Arts from the Indian College of Arts and Crafts, Calcutta. He has a few group shows and two one-man shows to his credit. Manas has also won the Governor8217;s Award of Academy of Fine Arts Annual Exhibition, Calcutta, in 1985.

Group show

This is another one of Cymroza Art Galleryacirc;euro;trade;s well thought out and well-planned exhibitions. Refuting the saying that those who cannot do, teach, the present and the past faculty of the Music and Fine Arts of Benaras Hindu University have come to Mumbai with their works.

A part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the University, the show by these 38 artists, includes works of sculpture, pottery, painting, prints, drawings and graphic design.

A tribute

Celebrations of Acharya Atre8217;s centenary year continue with Ekach Pyala, a play based on thefamous parody written by Ram Ganesh Gadkari.

This Marathi play takes a satirical look at the issue of quot;prohibitionquot; and the puritanical moral stance underlying it.

Produced by the Lalit Kala Kendra Pune, the play will be performed by a troupe from Pune. Directed by Praveen Bhole, the cast includes Dattaprasad Ranade, Janhavi Marathe, Nitin Dhanduke, Maithili Panse and others.
