
SURAT, Nov 17: Civil supplies teams seized essential commodities and contraband worth more than Rs 47 lakh during raids carried out at various places in the last two months. As many as 80 and 34 raids were carried out in the months of September and October respectively.
The commodities included: grain, pulses, palmolein oil, groundnut oil, groundnuts, sugar, petrol, kerosene, crude oil. The seizure for September was Rs 18.18 lakh and Rs 29.30 lakh for October. Out of the seizure, the State government forfeited commodities worth Rs 2.15 lakh and Rs 2.32 lakh respectively in September and October.
District Supply Officer K D Chandnani said action was being taken against the guilty, who included retailers and wholesalers. He said licenses of six fair price shop owners and LPG dealers were suspended in September. In October, besides suspension of four licenses, two fair price shops owners lost their licenses forever.
The traders whose licenses were suspended included: Manoharlal Hiralal Shah, Minakshiben Indravadan Sheth, Nathuala Mangilal Jain, Keshavbhai Gamit, Ratankumar Shah, all for 90 days; Ranjitsinh Rathod, Pushparaj Chandel and Kalubhai Tosawada for 30 days. Gulammohammed Ahmed Wadiwala, Punambhai Patel for 60 days. One Pravinchandra Shah and Mukesh Shah8217;s license were cancelled permanently.
