ESPN-Star Sports has snapped its ties with sister concern Hathway cable network over non-payment of subscription fees since September.

In a move unprecedented in broadcast business, ESPN-Star Sports has asked consumers to deduct Rs 39.70 the cost of the channels, from their monthly cable payout to Hathway operators. “Despite numerous meetings, it is apparent, judging from the demands being made by Hathway, that they are not serious about renewing the contract of showing our channels,” Vice-President, Sales and Marketing ESPN Software India, Sricharan Iyengar said.
