VADODARA, Aug 27: Roads and Buildings Minister Savjibhai Korat has said that the State Government was willing to take strict action like booking 8220;headstrong8221; contractors under Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act PASA.

Inaugurating the third seminar on improving the functioning of the Roads and Buildings Department here on Thursday, Korat said if necessary headstrong contractors who were negligent in their work could be booked under PASA.

Korat stressed the need for teamwork to provide better quality of roads and buildings. Persons from work assistants to chief engineers attended the seminar organised under the auspices of the Zone8217;s Vadodara division.

Informing that of the Rs 1,010 crore earmarked for the state department, Rs 450 crore would be spent in the Vadodara division, Korat stated that a handful of contractors not maintaining standards were tarnishing the department8217;s image. Secretary of the department, H P Jamdar advocated the need for quality work. He regretted that in many instances norms were violated at the sites. He also warned that officers not present at the sites would be suspended.

Korat assured that the process of promotions, which was held up for some time, would start soon.
