
VADODARA, May 19: Forms for applying in Engineering and Medical Colleges in the state will be given out from college offices from Thursday and accepted till June 10.
This year there are 4,865 seats, including new ones added after the recent approval of the All India Council for Technical Education AICTE. The admission procedure is slated to begin from June 24. With this year8217;s 53.13 percent result being about two per cent lower than last year8217;s, the cut off percent might dip, says a member of the Centralised Admissions Committee.
He adds that the admission rush for branches like Computer Engineering and Information Technology was expected to be high this year too. 8220;The disadvantage for the students of this city is that there is no branch of Information Technology here,8221; he says.
There are as many as 19 self-financed engineering colleges in the state, while four pharmaceutical colleges have opened since last year. M S University will have an addition of 467 seats in all its branches compared to last year.
While the number of Computer Engineering seats is highest at L D Engineering College in Ahmedabad, the other colleges which offer computer Engineering include Nirma in Ahmedabad, Birla Vishwakarma, Vidyanagar, Sarvajanik College, Surat, and the Vasad and Mehsana colleges. The only IT course is at GCET Vidyanagar.
Apart from the distribution of forms for admissions in professional colleges, admission forms for the Faculty of Science of the M S University will also begin from Thursday. The distribution will continue till June 10 and the forms would be accepted till June 24.
