South African Hendrik Buhrmann claimed the $400,000 Aamby Valley Asian Masters crown with a two-stroke victory, over Simon Hurd. The 42-year-old from Roodmpoort overcame adversity like a true champion, to finally claim his first title after 11 years on the tour.

“It’s not sinking in yet,” said an emotional Buhrmann, who was tied for the lead overnight alongside Hurd and Indian youngster Ashok Kumar. “I’ve wanted to win on the Asian Tour before I died. It feels great to win,” he said.

Buhrmann notched a glorious eagle on the 12th, and made two stunning pars from potentially disastrous positions – first on the 7th hole where the ball had gone out of bounds, and another on the 17th where he had to take a blind shot with the ball on the slope of a ravine.

Meanwhile, despite a big crowd rooting him on, Delhi-lad Ashok Kumar slipped to fifth position and ended with a $12,910 prize-money. It was an overall dismal result for Indian golfers — with only five finishing in the top 20.

RESULTS (Final Round) 277 – Hendrik Buhrmann (RSA) 66-75-65-71 ; 279 – Simon Hurd (ENG) 67-70-69-73 ;280 – Terry Pilkadaris (AUS) 72-71-67-70 283.
