CHANDIGARH, Aug 13: While the UT police maintain that there is no specific threat in the wake of Independence Day, they have made elaborate security arrangements for the function at Parade Ground.

Deputy Commissioner M. Ramsekhar and UT Senior Superintendent of Police C.S.R. Reddy inspected the August 15 function rehearsals held for three successive days while Inspector General of Police S.K. Singh and Home secretary N.K. Jain inspected the full-dress rehearsal today. Police station Central SHO has been told to get the antecedents checked of those residing in houses and showrooms in the vicinity of parade ground. The police will also carry out searches at guest houses, hotels,sarais, dharamshalas, religious places and other possible hideouts. CID officers are also being deployed on special intelligence duties.

Meanwhile, a press statement issued by the Chandigarh Traffic Police advised the road-users to take alternative routes in the wake of certain traffic restrictions and diversions on August 15.These roads will remain closed for general public from 7 a.m. till the conclusion of the function, around the Sector 17 Parade Ground: The road stretch from roundabout of Sector 16, 17, 22 and 23 upto small rotatory near Gurdial Singh Petrol Pump, Sector 22-A on Udyog Path, from crossing sector 16 and 17 upto roundabout of sectors 16, 17, 22 and 23 on Jan marg and from light point near MC Sector 17 up to Parade Ground.
