The Escorts vs Naresh Trehan battle has put a question mark on Delhi Lt Governor Tejinder Khanna’s role. A former chairman of Ranbaxy, Khanna apparently asked Delhi Police Commissioner K K Paul to consider taking action against the heart surgeon. Given Paul’s experience in dealing with VVIPs, he is learnt to have advised that it was better to keep the police out of corporate matters. But a dogged Khanna apparently called up DCPs, and so frantic were his efforts that the matter reached Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil and then the Congress high-command. The message came clear — leave corporates to fight their own battles.
