Own venture
First it was Jeetender8217;s daughter Ekta Kapoor, who along with mother Shobha Kapoor ventured into television and set up her own production company. Balaji Telefilms produced daily soap Itihaas for DD 1, Padoson for DD 2, Hum Paanch which is still on Zee after five years and the most recent Captain House, again on DD 2. Inspired by the success story of this production house, Jeetu8217;s son Tushar Kapoor has also decided to join the foray. Unlike other star-sons who are launched as heroes in films, Tushar is starting out with his own software company 8212; Tirupati Production 8212; and his first project is Ghar Ek Mandir, a family soap as the name suggests. It8217;s all in the family you see!
Singing success
The music show Sa Re Ga Ma on Zee seems to have done a world of good for singer Sonu Nigam. There was a lull in his singing career and the show gave his career a shot in the arm. It was only after the show went on air that he actually shot to fame singing for films like Border, Gharwali Baharwali and Pardes, topping it off with his album Tu. The latest on Sonu8217;s front is that he is turning composer music director with a serial called Yehi To Pyar Hai, being produced by Bollywood villain Sujit Kumar8217;s son Jatin and Deepak Mukul under the banner Icon International. It8217;s a musical romantic soap which has twenty songs composed and sung by Nigam and is approved for Zee.
Hindi please!
Kalpana Lajmi is a little upset about the status of her serial, Dawn. The first English series with desi actors which premiered around 15 weeks back on STAR Plus was pulled off the air last week. The buzz is that viewers are not following the serial and subsequently the TRPs are dismal. Now the channel has asked Lajmi to dub the entire series in Hindi after which it would be re-run, starting from episode one. While Lajmi was not available for comment, we bumped into Shahbaaz Khan, who plays protagonist Rudranath Baruwa in the serial. 8220;I just can8217;t understand what the audiences like. Such a brilliant script and Kalpana made it with so much passion and it8217;s not worked. This shows the choice of our viewers,8221; he fumes.
In and out
The latest on the star tantrums list is actress Shonali. The very girl who acts in Woh and anchors film-based show Lehren. Recently, she was signed on by Ajit Pal to play a role in his sitcom Friends, which also marks the debut of actor Rohit Roy as an episode director. Apparently, after doing the pilot episode, which was approved by Zee, she refused to have anything more to do with the serial. The reason: she has signed on some music videos. The result: Pal and Roy are in a fix.
Movie madness
Last week viewers were quite surprised or maybe confused, we wouldn8217;t really know. See, In Mumbai channel had announced that they would telecast Aamir Khan8217;s Ghulam on November 20 and they flashed trailors umpteen number of times. But it came as a great surprise when they showed it almost a week earlier, on November 15 on their sister channel CVO. It could possibly be because by then Star Plus had announced that they would air the same film on November 21 and subsequently pre-poned it by five days. It was the same story with Shahrukh Khan-Juhi Chawla starrer Yes Boss, which was finally aired on three channels 8212; Star Plus, In network and CVO in the same month.
