KHARAR, May 14: The district Health Department would launch a special campaign to eradicate malaria in Roopnagar district from next month. Special awareness camps will be organised at primary health centres, educational institutions and Aanganwadi centres in the entire district under this campaign so as to educate the masses about prevention and cure of infectious diseases which usually spread during monsoons.

This was disclosed by district epidemiologist officer, Mohan Singh, while addressing a special meeting held here under the National Malaria Eradication Scheme. The meeting was chaired by Kharar SDM, Avtar Chand Sharma, while officials of the Health Department, Aanganwadi workers and prominent citizens including MC chief, Kharar, Ranbir Singh, participated.NEW KHARAR SMO: Dr. Satya Pal Singla has taken over as Senior Medical Officer SMO incharge of the Kharar Civil Hospital in place of Dr S. S. Dhanoa, who has been transferred to Derra Bassi.

PROBE INTO MC WORKING URGED: Tara Chand Gupta, a former president of the Kharar Municipal Committee and a leading advocate of the township, has demanded a high level probe into the working of the Kharar Municipal Council by the Punjab Government, which he alleged, was in dire straits and had failed on all fronts.

In a release issued here today, he said that the municipal council had failed to provide basic civic amenities to the residents of the township and had also failed to pay salaries to the employees.

He said that the town was becoming more and more insanitary. Drinking water supply was poor, Gupta said, and added that water comes at low pressure and is supplied for very short durations and this, Gupta said was a routine affair. Street lights too were not operating properly, Gupta said. Heaps of garbage and overflowing drains have led to the breeding of mosquitoes and flies which could lead to an outbreak of some epidemic.
