LONDON, June 14: Australian Scott Draper picked up his first ATP Tour tennis title today, defeating little-know Belgian-born Italian Laurence Tieleman in straight sets in the final at the Queen’s Club.
Draper, 24, didn’t face a breakpoint in the grass-court match and closed out Tieleman with his 10th ace 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.
Despite the absence of big-name players in the final like top-seeded Pete Sampras and No 2 Greg Rusedski, the match was a sellout on a rare sunny London afternoon. Draper controlled the match with better passing shots as Tieleman consistently missed his volleys.
