Without taking much time in getting used to the sudden attention on him, Dr R P Singh 8212; the city-based diabetes specialist who is under the scanner for his alleged involvement in the Malegaon blast 8212; on Monday went through his usual schedule of examining patients and working for Kashmiri refugees.
The part-time endocrinologist working with Indraprastha Apollo Hospital examined out-patients from 4-6 pm. 8220;My patients are suffering the most,8221; he said. Dr Singh could not attend his OPD on Saturday due to heavy media presence outside the hospital. 8220;Life had to return to normal and my patients were suffering so I came back to work. I spent the rest of the day gathering woollens to be sent to Kashmir for refugees,8221; he said.
Dr Singh said his family 8212; two children and an ailing wife 8212; had 8216;made the adjustment8217; too. 8220;Initially, my children were shocked. I had to explain to them once and they have not questioned me after that,8221; Dr Singh told The Indian Express. He said both his children 8212; a daughter pursuing engineering and a son in Class X 8212; believed him.
Dr Singh, who will soon be going to Vellore in Tamil Nadu for his wife8217;s bone marrow transplant, said he was not worried about the allegations made against him. According to Dr Singh, he spent January 26 8212; the day on which the Malegaon bombing was planned in Faridabad 8212; with his children.
8220;Though I had gone to Faridabad briefly, I spent the rest of the day with my children. I had taken them to Noida for shopping. My family does not think I can be involved in such a thing and that is enough for me as of now,8221; he said.
8220;My wife requires a bone marrow transplant and I will be going to Vellore for that since the treatment is not available in Delhi,8221; he added.
The doctor maintains that he is willing to resign from Apollo for the sake of the hospital.
8220;On the first day I offered to resign. The hospital has been supportive. I am not involved, I do not belong to any political party and I am not a culprit. Justice will prevail,8221; said Dr Singh.
