Topping the list of the director8217;s achievements is the decongestion of the OPD block by commissioning a new fully air-conditioned pediatrics and medicine OPD block, which allows 1,000 more patients to be seen daily. Also, the formation of a new 60-bed emergency ward and a waiting area with two high dependency units, has helped the institute in improving emergency care as the old casualty was constantly cramped for space.
The memorandum also mentions the construction of a new 117 bed private ward, and an under-construction large seven-storied dental centre for education and research, as some of the important contibutions of Dr Venugopal.
8216;8216;The director has made so many changes in the institute, be it augmentation of cardiac and neurology patient care with the construction of a cardio-neuro tower, a new building in the B R A Institute Rotary Cancer Hospital with 200 beds, a PET scan facility, a larger and modernised new mortuary building, or the stem cell facility that has been instituted. The list is unending,8217;8217; said a resident doctor.
The memorandum blames Ramadoss for introducing the controversial user charges that were opposed by many faculty members at the institute. It also alleges that the opening of the AIIMS trauma center has been delayed because the minister took no active steps to facilitate it.
