Daring the UPA government to recommend the suspension of the Mulayam Singh Yadav government in UP, BJP president Rajnath Singh has said his party would stand by the Centre on the issue.
8220;I promise the Congress the BJP8217;s strong support because this is necessary now for the safety and security of the people,8221; he said today, addressing a party workers8217; meeting.
8220;President8217;s Rule in UP is the only option if the political parties in the UPA are really serious about the deteriorating situation. We will stand by the Congress Party if it really has the guts to suspend the SP government, Singh said.
Today8217;s meet appeared to have a single agenda8212;to clarify to the party cadres that the BJP had no dealings with the Mulayam government. It was only yesterday that Mulayam told the Assembly that he has always been helped by senior RSS leaders and by the BJP in UP. 8216;8216;They have stood with me in my hours of crisis right from the beginning,8217;8217; he said.
While party workers often interjected to demand a clarification, Singh today tried to calm the situation. 8220;There was a conspiracy among our rivals to spread misinformation about the BJP,8221; he said.
Asserting that the secular credentials of the country could be maintained only when Hindus were in the majority, the BJP president reiterated that India presented a unique example of religious co-existence with President APJ Abdul Kalam being a Muslim, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh a Sikh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi a Christian.
