'While a young lady was killed some people say it is because of her adventurous behaviour', fumed LK Advani.

Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dixit’s statement that women should not get “adventurous” by going out in the night – made in the light of journalist Saumya Vishwanathan’s murder – drew the ire of senior BJP leader L K Advani who called it “outrageous”.

“While a young lady was killed some people say it is because of her adventurous behaviour,” Advani said at a seminar in New Delhi.

Showing his displeasure at the statement of the Congress leader, Advani said, “It seems something has radically gone wrong with people in authority to make such outrageous statements”.

Dixit’s statement was reportedly made in the light of the gruesome murder of Saumya Vishwanathan, a producer with a news channel, while she was going home at 3:30 am on September 29.

Her statement has been criticised in several quarters as irresponsible – especially as it comes from a woman – and as an attempt to shirk responsibility of providing security to the people of Delhi.
