CHENNAI, AUG 16: The differences between Pudhiya Tamizhagam PT and Tamil Maanila Congress TMC over seat-sharing for the coming Lok Sabha polls narrowed a bit, with PT president Dr K Krishnasamy and TMC president G K Moopanar holding talks last night, after keeping silence for a couple of days.
Addressing mediapersons today, Krishnasamy said that he had met Moopanar last night and during his two-and-a-half hour confabulation, he had justified his party8217;s claim for certain specific constituencies.
He said Moopanar had told him that he would consult his party colleagues and convey his decision this evening. However, Krishnasamy refused to answer questions whether he still considered Moopanar as the Front8217;s leader.
8220;I apprised Moopanar of our side of the picture which did not reach him earlier,8221;he said. Krishnasamy, however, added that the past was past and there was no point in dwelling on issues that prevented the two parties from joining hands as poll partners.
He said, 8220;We presented our position on the number of seats we needed to contest and on identification of the constituencies.8221; Asked whether the PT still persisted with its view on its place in the Third Front, he said, 8220;Let us not get bogged down over semantics.8221;
Krishnasamy denied that the PT and TMC had a bitter exchange of views on poll-related issues for over a week. If it was so,8220;we would have parted company8221;, he said. The PT was anxious to ensure what was due for Dalits in the Third Front, to reflect their aspirations in political terms, he said.
Last morning, Krishnasamy expressed confidence that the two parties would take a decision on the seat-sharing arrangement. The tussle over the alliance had earlier intensified soon after the one-to-one dialogue with Moopanar ceased, he said then.
The differences between the two parties cropped up when both the TMC, heading the Third Front in the State, and PT announced their own list of candidates for the same constituencies. Krishnasamy protested against this and took the stand that unless Moopanar invited him, he would not hold any talks with the TMC.
