
PUNE, June 23: Bureaucrat-turned-social worker Avinash Dharmadhikari who had led Punekar Nagrik Kriti Samiti8217;s agitation in support of former municipal commissioner Arun Bhatia, will file a writ petition in the Bombay High Court on Thursday challenging the legality of the no-confidence motion passed by the general body of the PMC against Bhatia.
In a statement issued today, Dharmadhikari also lashed out at the 8220;political forces8221; that targeted such people who raised their voice against corruption and injustice. 8220;These political forces have decided to defame me by levelling baseless charges,8221; Dharmadhikari said adding that the construction at Chanakya Mandal was not illegal or unauthorised.
The PMC8217;s anti-encroachment squad had razed about 300 square feet of tarpaulin shed, constructed in the terrace of Chanakya Mandal which the corporation had stated was illegal. Dharmadhikari stated that he had filed a writ petition in the high court raising the issue of misuse of powers by the civic administration to harass him. A stay order had been obtained in the matter, Dharmadhikari added.
The notice issued by the Pune Municipal Corporation PMC was illegal and did not specifically mention the legal section that had been flouted to construct the 8220;unauthorised construction.8221; While the PMC has resorted to the act of demolition according to Section 478 1 of the BPMC Act, Dharmadhikari said that no mention was made of any kind of clause whereby the tarpaulin covers were removed.
