Foreign Secretary Shashank has said that during his recent visit to Bangladesh, he got the 8216;8216;impression8217;8217; that Dhaka would 8216;8216;very soon co-operate8217;8217; with New Delhi on the issue of ULFA leaders on their soil.

In return, Bangladesh has asked for some alleged criminals who are now living in India.

Speaking to The Indian Express, the foreign secretary said New Delhi has also asked for particulars of Indians detained in Bangladesh so that consular access could be provided to persons like Anup Chetia, who has been in detention in Bangladesh for several years.

8216;8216;Other important things are also in progress,8217;8217; Shashank said. 8216;8216;Bangladesh has got the texts of the proposed extradition treaty as well as the mutual legal assistance treaty and we are hoping these will be signed soon.8217;8217;

He, however, clarified that it was too early to talk about the modalities for the return of ULFA leaders as yet. Besides Anup Chetia, other important leaders in Bangladesh include ULFA8217;s Commander-in-Chief Paresh Barua and Tripura militant leader Sanjib Dev Burman.

Earlier this year, during talks with their counterparts, the Bangla Rifles BDR, senior officials of the Border Security Force BSF handed over details of locations of over 100 militant training camps located in Bangladesh.
