Developed world crisis could spread: PM

PM said exports could be hit if crisis caused a recession in world's largest economies.

The financial crisis in developed countries could spill over to the rest of the world, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said in a French newspaper interview released on Monday.

He told 8216;Le Figaro8217; newspaper Indian exports could be hit if the crisis caused a recession in the world8217;s largest economies.

8220;Even though the crisis is only affecting developing countries at the moment, it could extend to the rest of the world,8221; Singh, who is on a visit to France, said.

8220;If the financial crisis starts a recession in the main economies, that would compromise our exports,8221; he added.

He said India and China were important players in the world economy but alone could not pull the world economy out of its troubled period.

8220;The main responsibility is with the developed countries, but India and China can play a part in the solution,8221; he said.
