Ahead of the world Gujarati meet in New York later this month, Democratic lawmaker Joe Sestak has appealed to the Bush administration not to issue visa to Chief Minister Narendra Modi for his administration’s alleged involvement in persecution of religious minorities. In a letter to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Sestak said he was “deeply concerned” that allowing Modi to visit the United States would be “tacit approval” of the Gujarat Chief Minister’s “reprehensible statements, policies and action that violate human rights.”He urged her to deny Modi entry into the country for attending the world Gujarati meet, being held in New York from August 29 to 31, according to Coalition Against Genocide (CAG), an umbrella body of several Indian American organisations. The CAG claimed that Modi’s name has also been dropped from the list of invitees to the World Economic Forum being held in Tianjin, China this September.
