Express lens man assaulted
A photographer with The Indian Express, Hemant Chawla, was assaulted by a resident of A-53, Amar Colony, when he was on an assignment for the paper regarding unauthorised construction. The owner of the building tried to prevent him from taking pictures, abused him and even tried to thrash him. In the process, his camera lens was damaged. The Amar Colony police refused to register an FIR despite several reminders, but a complaint was registered.

NDMC budget
A hike of five to 10 per cent in property tax has been proposed in the Rs 44-crore deficit budget of the New Delhi Municipal Council NDMC for 1999- 2000. The budget also proposes, for the first time ever, to levy service charges on embassies and diplomatic missions. Presenting the budget proposals today, the chairman of the New Delhi Municipal Council, B.P. Misra, said that the expenditure for the coming financial year has been estimated at Rs 661 crore while revenue earnings have been pegged at Rs 617 crore.

MCD deadline
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi MCD has extended the last date for regularisation of additional floors in residential buildings to April 30. Earlier the last date had been kept at March 31. Making this announcement at the meeting of the MCD Standing Committee today, Municipal Commissioner V.K. Duggal said that legal action would be taken against all those who would not submit their new building plans to the MCD within the stipulated period. DDA to diversify
Now that it doesn8217;t have 8220;enough land to keep building houses in Delhi8221;, the Delhi Development Authority DDA plans to diversify into building flyovers, multi-tier parking lots, amusement parks and even broadening roads. The Delhi Development Authorityis also going to send a proposal to the Delhi government for constructing a new barrage on the Yamuna near Wazirabad.

Phone directory
The Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited MTNL today released the new telephone directory for 1999 after a gap of four long years. The new 8220;Phone Book8221; has been brought out in three volumes, the first two volumes list the Delhi residential numbers and the third volume lists the Delhi business.
