Mild quake in CapitalAn earthquake of mild intensity, measuring 1.8 on the Richter scale was felt today at 5.40 am in the Capital and adjoining areas, the meteorological office said here. G. Gupta's 78 votes. The two posts of vice-president went to Shahid Hussain and Ajay Patnaik, who won by 193 and 204 votes respectively defeating the BJP Front's Sudesh Nangia. Basheer Ahemed won the treasurer's post with 211 votes as against R.C. Gupta's 72 votes.Cash reward for 49 police officersSpecial Commissioner of Police (Security and Operations) today gave away cash rewards to 49 police officers working with the Police Control Room vans. The officers were also given commendation certificates for apprehending criminals. Of these, 15 officers were rewarded for nabbing robbers in four cases; 17 for recovering stolen vehicles in five cases; eight officers won commendation for recovering illegal fire arms in three cases; three for getting a kidnapped boy released and catching two culprits; one policeman was rewarded for nabbing a chain snatcher; three others were given certificates for recovering 263 kg of poppy husk; and three for apprehending two accused in an attempt to murder case.
