
Govt caution on mustard oil
The government has advised the public not to purchase mustard oil from open containers in view of reports of its contamination leading to several cases of Epidemic Dropsy. The department of Prevention of Food Adulteration (PFA) has sent teams all over the Capital to collect samples of mustard oil to check for adulteration. The police have been instructed to take action against the guilty, chief health secretary Ramesh Chandra said here today. School children, he said, were also being educated about the side-effects of consuming adulterated oil.
Committees to help residents
The Delhi government has set up 106 committees to address the problems of law and order and civic amenities. Headed by local MLAs and MLCs they will include police officials, locals and civic officials. The formation of these committee has been delayed for over two months, despite the worsening crime and civic situation in the Capital.
Disruption in power supply
Power supply will be disrupted in J-Block Kirti Nagar and Pandav Nagar from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday as the DVB is shifting and connecting cables in this area.
Seats available in Deshbandhu College
Few seats are available in Deshbandhu College for B.Com (Hons), B.A (Pass) and B.A (Hons) in Political Science, History, Hindi, Sanskrit and Mathematics. Students can also apply for B.Sc (Hons) Mathematics, Bio-Chemistry, Zoology and B.Sc (General) with Computer Science. Those applying for admission for B.A (Pass) with subjects like Philosophy, Sindhi, Bengali, Punjabi and Sanskrit will be given further relaxation in marks.
Municipal commissioner suspends 7 officials
Municipal Commissioner V.K. Duggal has suspended seven officials working in a rickshaw store in Shahdara for irregularities in connivance with contractors and touts.
Delhi Trade Fair from September 11
The fourth Delhi Trade Fair will be held at the Raja Garden grounds from September 11 to September 23. Minister of Industry and Jail Harkishan Singh Balli said the fair would be organised by the Delhi State Industrial Development Corporation. Export-oriented units would be allotted stalls to exhibit handicrafts, hosiery items, leather goods, toys, sanitary fittings, electrical appliances, artificial jewellery and readymade garments, among other things.
Protest against water tariff hike
Members of the Delhi Cooperative Group Housing Federation Ltd have protested against the hike in water tariffs in group housing societies. Chairman of the federation M.C. Gupta said that due to the revision in tariffs each member would have to pay Rs 196 per month instead of Rs 31.50 per month.
AVUT organises panel discussion
The Association of the Victims of Uphaar Tragedy (AVUT) is organising a panel discussion on `Delhi Roads The Deadly Killer’ on Thursday at the India Habitat Centre. The panelists include former union minister Vasant Sathe, Delhi Transport Minister Rajender Gupta, ACP (Traffic) Kanwaljeet Deol, journalist Samar Halarnkar and senior advocate K.T.S. Tulsi.
AICC teachers cell chairman appointed
V.K. Bhasin has been appointed chairman of the Delhi State unit of the All India Congress Committee (I) teachers cell. Dr Vinod Tyagi has been appointed the convener. The newly-appointed office-bearers have in a joint statement condemned the present DUTA leadership for mishandling the protest movement against pay revision and demanded that it be handed over to a joint action committee.
