
NEW DELHI, February 3: Continuing with its demolition drive, the Delhi Development Authority DDA removed structures in Masjid Moth in south Delhi today. Several other demolitions had to be postponed as the required number of police personnel were not available.
According to U.S. Jolly, DDA Commissioner Land: 8220;We demolished a boundary wall and some temporary structures built in an area of 700 square yards in Masjid Moth today. We also removed some building material from the site.8221;Jolly added that most encroachers first built a boundary wall, then added a few rooms and finally got a ration card and then built a multi-storey building.
He said that the DDA had also planned to demolish several structures in Naraina, Adarsh Nagar, Razapur in Rohini, Vasant Kunj and Nand Nagari. 8220;But since the police stations could not depute men for the job, we had to postpone it.8221;
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi MCD also continued with the crackdown. According to Vishnu Swarup Sharma, Additional Commissioner Building, MCD, they sealed three properties in Rohini today.
Meanwhile, aggrieved shopkeepers from the DDA central market in Safdarjung met the Municipal Commissioner V.K. Duggal today in protest against the demolition carried out in their area on February 1. While the shopkeepers claimed that the demolition was unjustified, Duggal said that the MCD had only removed encroachments.
