Dalbir Kaur left high and dry

Dalbir Kaur, sister of Sarabjit Singh, who is imprisoned in a high-security Lahore jail, kept waiting here today for meeting Rahul Gandhi, General Secretary of All India Congress Committee, but could not do so.

Dalbir Kaur, sister of Sarabjit Singh, who is imprisoned in a high-security Lahore jail, kept waiting here today for meeting Rahul Gandhi, General Secretary of All India Congress Committee, but could not do so. Dalbir Kaur reached Green Land Senior Secondary School, Jalandhar bye-pass, around 10 a.m and wanted to have a word with Gandhi hoping that that he may help in getting his brother freed.

Dalbir Kaur said, 8220;I tried to jostle through the crowd near Green Land School, the security personnel did not allow Rahul to stay there for more than a second. So I could not meet him. Now I will go to Delhi on September 30 to meet Rahul Gandhi.8221; She further said that Rahul had helped her a lot in a communicating with with Home Minister of India along with other officers. She said,8221;He also promised to help me in getting my brother released from Lahore jail.8221;

Sarabjit Singh was convicted for his involvement in 1990 serial bomb blasts in Lahore and Multan that killed 14 people. He claims that he is just a poor farmer and victim of mistaken identity, who strayed into Pakistan from his village located on the border. Earlier he was to be given a death sentence, but on April 29, 2008, his hanging was deferred.

She said,8221;I have only one brother and no one else. He has two daughters: one of them is 18-year-old while the other is 21-year-old.8221;

Meanwhile, students of Green Land Senior Secondary School, Jalandhar Bye-pass, handed over a memorandum of demands to Rahul Gandhi when his cavalcade reached near the school on way to Jalandhar Bye-pass. Rajesh Rudhra, Director of the school, said, 8220;Students thanked him for coming to the city and also demanded that Ashok Ganguli, the former chairman of Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi, should be re-appointed in the same post. Ganguli had brought many positive changes in the board and also improved the level of education in CBSE schools. The students also requested Rahul Gandhi to hold a meeting with them in Delhi, following which the Congress leader assured them that he would soon call them for a meeting and listen to their problems.8221;
