CHANDIGARH, SEPT 14: As part of the Territorial Army TA Golden Jubilee commemorations, a 1,050-km-long cycle expedition traversing three states was of lagged off from Chandimandir Cantonment near here today.

Wishing success for the expedition while flagging off the cyclists, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, Lt Gen H.B. Kala said the rally was aimed at promoting the spirit of adventure. He also appreciated the role of the TA in counter insurgency operations.

Organised by the Western Command TA Group, the expedition is led by Lt S. Bhatnagar of 103 TA Infantry Battalion Sikh LI. Other members of the expedition, conceptualised by the battalion8217;s Commanding Officer, Col G.R. Tetarwal, include Nb Sub Anand Bahadur, Sep Surjit Singh, Sep Bhagwan Singh, Sep Gurmail Singh, Sep Ayodhya Kumar, Sep Raj Kumar, Sep Rattan Singh, Sep Gurjant Singh and Sep Arvind Kumar.

The TA Group Commander, Brig Khuswant Singh said the expedition would pass through Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana before terminating at New Delhi, where it would be flagged in by Chief of the Army Staff General V.P. Malik on October 6, along with similar expeditions from the Central Command and the Southern Command.

He added that the team members would interact with school and college students en route and project the image of the TA and motivate the youth to join it. Several senior officers of the Command including Chief of Staff Lt Gen B.S. Malik were also present on the occasion.
