No one knows who scripted it first but a crude SMS on the 8216;8216;feel-good8217;8217; factor has the BJP8217;s Mumbai unit chief, Vinod Tawde, in the line of fire from political rivals and women8217;s groups.
One version of the SMS goes like this: 8216;8216;A rape victim stands before a judge, who asks her if she knows the offender. She replies, 8216;No, your honour. But I think he belonged to the BJP because at the time I did feel good.8217;8217;8217;
When contacted, Tawde told The Indian Express that the issue was being blown out of proportion. 8216;8216;I think this should be treated as a joke, it was in completely private circulation.8217;8217;
He said he could prove the 8216;8216;objectionable8217;8217; message was received by him from none other than an NCP legislator and a Congress minister. 8216;8216;This is not part of the SMS databank created by the BJP for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections. I have stored this entire message in my cellphone.8217;8217;
His rivals, however, refuse to buy this version. Maharashtra8217;s minister of state for home Kripa Shankar Singh has even written to the Maharashtra State Women8217;s Commission chief Nirmala-Sawant Prabhavalkar to initiate proceedings against Tawde. 8216;8216;The SMS is in very bad taste and reflects the mentality of the BJP leaders,8217;8217; he said.
Apart from Prabhavalkar, women8217;s wings of some political parties too have got into the act, dashing off letters of protest and threatening to stage morchas.
