Ex-minister8217;s son8217;s revolver stolen

n An unidentified man stole a revolver owned by a former state minister8217;s son at Mulund on Thursday morning.

The police said 32-year-old Sandip, son of Shivajirao Shendge, a minister in the earlier Congress regime, had kept the revolver in his briefcase. He had kept the briefcase in his car and had gone for shopping at P K Road in Mulund. Moments after he got down from his car, an unidentified man dropped several Rs ten notes in front of the car. On seeing them, Shendge8217;s driver suspected his boss had dropped them. He immediately rushed out of the car, picked up the notes and went inside the shop searching for Shendge.

The man who had dropped the notes then broke open the car window, picked up the briefcase and fled.

8220;He probably did not know what the briefcase contained. He must have thought it to be full of money. We hope to trace him soon with the help of our records of bag-lifters,8221; said an officer attached to Mulund police station. A case of bag lifting has been filed by the Mulund police.

Truck driver murdered

Arguments over petty matters led to the murder of a truck driver at Kandivali east at 9.15 pm on Wednesday.

According to the police, the deceased Majnoo Nizam Patel 25, resident of Shivling Chawl at Vadarpada, Kandivali E, had a tiff with the accused Yogesh Paswan 21 on Wednesday morning. This resulted in Paswan lodging a complaint with the local police, sources added.

When Patel learnt that a complaint had been lodged against him, he agitatedly rushed to Paswan8217;s paan shop near Samrat Ashok Library, Vadarpada. Paswan stabbed Patel repeatedly with a chopper, said the police.

He was assisted by his friend Suraj Saroj while assaulting Patel. A panchnama of the deceased revealed that he died of 10 stab wounds in the stomach and the chest. The accused have been arrested..

Cashier arrested for fraud

Arjun Gurapu, a cashier attached to the zone 6 Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Barve, was arrested on Tuesday for misappropriation of funds. The Mulund police arrested Gurapu from his native place in Karnataka yesterday.

He has been charged with criminal breach of trust.The police said Gurapu, in connivance with some other officers, siphoned off Rs 88,000 from the office funds. The money was part of the police station fund of post retirement dues to be given to constables attached to the Mulund police station. Gurapu was produced in the court of metropolitan magistrate, who remanded him in police custody till May 27.

Garment shop looted

Unidentified robbers looted clothes worth Rs 8,000 from a garment shop in Kalamboli on Tuesday night. The police informed that Manoj Prabhu had locked his readymade garments shop in Kalamboli at the end of the day. When he returned to open the shop on Wednesday morning, he noticed that the locks were broken open, and the shutter was only partly closed.

On entering the shop, he realised that readymade clothes worth Rs 8,000 were missing. The Kalamboli police have filed a case of housebreaking and investigations are on.
