Constable attempts suicide

A constable with theKanjurmarg police attempted suicide after alleged harassment from his seniors drove him to the brink last week. Constable Prakash Pandurang, a court orderly with the Mulund Metropolitan Magistrate8217;s Court, was deputed for bandobast on Ganesh Chaturthi by Senior Inspector, Dattatreya Kusale on September 13 and 14. However, Madhke did not turn up for duty on either day.

An irate Kusale then made a diary entry alleging that Madhke had been irresponsible and was absent without a reason. When Madhke turned up for work on September 15, he learnt of the diary entry and immediately returned to his Wagle Estate residence in Thane and consumed insecticide. Timely treatment saved his life.

Madhke later alleged that his seniors had subjected him to repeated harassment by making him work long hours, abusing and humiliating him, which is why he decided to end his life. Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone-VI, R M Kedari, has initiated an inquiry into the incident.
