4 Chhota Rajan men held in Thane

Four members of the Chhota Rajan gang were arrested by the anti-extortion cell of the Thane crime branch on Friday for allegedly demanding protection money of Rs five lakh from a civil contractor.

Those arrested are Sham Patil 22, Prabhakar alias Pappu Patil 25, Sanjay Patil 20 and Vishwanath Patil 23. They have been remanded police custody till April 13, 1997.

One killed in Jogeshwari

Taking offence at his wife being teased cost this 35-year-old man his life in Jogeshwari. Kaushal Kishore Vishwanath Singh was beaten to death by two persons on Sunday morning.

According to the police, the victim was a resident of Anand Nagar chawl at New Link Road, Jogeshwari, repeatedly quarrelled with accused Pawan Tiwari 25 reportedly because Tiwari teased his wife.

On Sunday at around 8.00 am, Pawan and his accomplice M Tiwari accosted Kaushal Kishore Singh who was on his way to a public toilet. While Tiwari caught hold of Singh8217;s leg, Pawan struck himhard on the back of the head with a cricket bat.

Leaving the injured Singh, the duo fled from the scene.

Singh was taken to Cooper Hospital but was declared dead on admission. The Oshiwara police have registered a case of murder against the two persons and investigations are on.

One held selling spurious liquor

The flying squad of the Konkan division of the state Excise department arrested one Dhavji Murhi Rawat 32 for selling adulterated scotch whisky valued at Rs 51,000 on Saturday.

Acting on a tip off the members of the squad raided the Andheri residence of Rawat and seized labels, empty bottles and corks of renowned scotch brands. Rawat used to mix country liquor with scotch whisky and sell them.

Investigations are in progress.

Diamond trader robbed

Three unidentified persons robbed a diamond merchant of diamonds worth Rs 11.50 lakh at Dadar on Saturday morning.

Police said that the accused barged into the shop of Paresh Thakkar, at Sagar Industrial Estate at Ketkipada,Dahisar and threw chilly powder into his eyes and decamped with 2,202 diamond pieces of 383.07 carat after hitting Thakkar on the head with a chopper.

An offence of robbery has been registered by the Dadar police against the three persons. The police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused.
