Housewife, infant burnt alive in fire

A 22-year-old woman and her seven-month-old child were charred to death in a fire that broke out at Manish Park slums in Jogeshwari E early today.

Manju Mishra and her son Rahul slept inside their Pumphouse hutment at Jijamata Road while her husband Rajesh and mother-in-law and brother-in-law went to sleep outside. At around 4.15 am fire broke out on the roof and before the family could gather its wits, the blaze had engulfed the entire hut. Neighbours joined Rajesh in dousing the fire with water. The fire brigade arrived at around 4.40 am, followed by the police. By the time, fire was controlled, Manju and her son had died. The bodies were sent to the Cooper Hospital for autopsy. According to an officer from the Meghwadi police station, the fire was caused by short circuit. Several loose wires hung over the hut which may have led to sparks, he added.

Man8217;s body found in creek

THE Kherwadi police fished out the body of a 30-year-old unidentifiedman from the Bandra creek on Sunday evening.

The police received a call informing of the body lying opposite UTI building at around 6 pm. It bore multiple stab wounds on forehead, cheek and neck.The man was medium built, wheatish complexion and five feet six inches tall and wore striped shirt. The police have registered a case of murder.

Man kills wife in Kanjurmarg

THE Kanjurmarg police have arrested a man for killing his wife and attempting to commit suicide on Sunday morning.

Subhash Sawant and his wife Sushma, residents of Waradkar8217;s Chawl in Shiv Krupa Nagar, got into a heated argument at around 5.30 am. He then took a sharp object and stabbed Sushma several times and later stabbed himself.

The commotion had woken up Sawant8217;s neighbours who rushed the couple to the Rajawadi Hospital, where Sushma succumbed to her injuries, due to excessive bleeding. Subhash is reportedly out of danger. The cause of fight between the couple is not known yet, the police said.

Garment theft:7arrested

KALACHOWKY police arrested seven persons in connection with theft of readymade garments worth Rs 32 lakh.

A complaint was lodged on January 25 by the proprietor of Balaji Roadlines, Ramesh Belosey, regarding theft of a tempo loaded with readymade garments.The police identified the arrested as Bismillah Khan 26, Jujraj alias Uvraj Mangal Choudry 22, Farooq Mohd Anees Khan 22, Mohd Allauddin Jumman Sha 28, Shirajuddin Moh Habib Gajul 21, Ballu Abdul Aziz Malik 21 and Vaujuddin Malik 23. The arrrest is likely to lead police to similar cases.
