Youths steal Rs 2.5 lakh from car

Three unidentified youth smashed the windshield of a Maruti car in Vivek Vihar before escaping with Rs 2.5 lakh on Wednesday afternoon.

This incident comes less than 24 hours after a similar one was reported from Anand Vihar yesterday. Around 12.30 p.m., minutes after businessman Sanjay Kapoor parked his car in the D-block market at Uday Vihar in the Vivek Vihar police station area, three youth arrived in a Maruti van.

When Kapoor left, two of them smashed the windshield and took out the bag containing the money. Before people around could realise what was happening, they sped away.

From eyewitness accounts, the police discovered that one of the youths was armed. However, they failed to identify any of the culprits.

The police believe that Kapoor might have been followed by the thieves from the bank to the parking lot in the D-block market.

Alleged contract killers held

Three alleged contract killers were arrested near the Haryana border on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off that the gang — also involved in several cases of bootlegging — would be smuggling liquor in three Maruti cars from Delhi to Haryana, the police set up a trap on the Mehrauli-Badarpur road.

While three of the gangsters, Shiv Kumar, Babloo and Ved Pal were caught, the fourth managed to flee in the third car. At least 1,600 pouches of illicit liquor were recovered.

The gang had reportedly carried out a number of contract killings in the past. Shiv Kumar is believed to killed Shobha Ram Jat in Ballabgrah village a few months ago, while his accomplice Ved Pal allegedly gunned down a Ballabgarh councilor Ramesh Kumar.

Interrogation revealed that besides cases of murder and smuggling liquor, the gang was involved in 63 incidents of motor vehicle thefts. The police claim that with Tuesday’s arrests, they have nabbed six members of the same gang so far.
