
Sozzled man sets wife afire after dispute
A woman was allegedly set ablaze by her husband over a household dispute on Sunday afternoon. Sahshikala Dattatraya More 30 has been admitted to Surya hospital with 45 per cent burns.
According to the police, Dattatraya Sadashiv More, a resident of Uttamnagar slums in Kothrud, used to drink heavily which led to frequent tiffs with his wife. On Sunday afternoon, Dattatraya came home in an inebriated state and asked for some money. When she refused, Dattatraya allegedly started beating her up. Dattatraya then poured some kerosene over her and set her on fire, the police said. According to the FIR lodged with the Kothrud police, Dattatraya immediately tried to put out the fire, sustaining 20 per cent burns on his arms and legs.
Cops hurt while nabbing culprits
Two police constables were injured in a failed attempt to nab two history-sheeters on Saturday night. Police constables Kaluram Tukaram Takalkar and N K Kadaka of Narpatgir police chowki received a tip off that history-sheeter, Basir Shaik Gundu, was seen at Hindustan Hotel in Mangalwar Peth with two accomplices.
The constables rushed to the spot and challenged Gundu and his accomplices. The history-sheeter and his accomplices took to their heels. The constables chased them. Madhukar Bansode 39 and his accomplice, Parshuram Karbharee 23 took advantage of the confusion and garnered Rs 20,300 from their unsuspecting victims. On a complaint filed by Raju Pangarkar, who had been relieved of Rs 11,000 by the pickpockets, the police traced down the duo on Saturday evening.
